Woman, male associate arrested for installing camera in women’s washroom geyser
A woman and her accomplice were arrested after a spy camera was found installed in the shower of a women’s bathroom in a house rented here, police said.
The accused were arrested on Wednesday after preliminary investigations, said the police. The owner of the rented house had reported the matter to the police.
The police said that the device had allegedly been installed by one of the youth, who had moved into the house a few days ago where four other women also lived in a rental. She had installed the device allegedly at the request of her male accomplice who had delivered it to her, police said.
After another woman who lived in the rented accommodation noticed the device, she informed the owner of the house, who then called the police and filed a complaint.
In statements to the journalists here on Wednesday, the DSP of the Chandigarh Police, Gurmukh Singh, said that three days ago he received a complaint regarding the matter of a young man who lives on rent in the Sector 22 here.
Said that he works in Chandigarh and has been staying in the house during the last three years.
“A few days ago, I noticed that some device had been installed in the bathroom geyser and suspected that there might be a hidden camera.
“First he spoke with the owner of the house, who then reported the matter to the police”, said the deputy superintendent of the police.
After a preliminary investigation, an FIR was registered in the case under sections 509 of the IPC (talk, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and 354 C (voyeurism) and under the provisions of the TI Act.
It is said that during the investigations, the police also tracked down the store where the device was purchased.
“They discovered that one of the women who lived in the rented house had installed it. We arrested him. His accomplice, who lived here in sector 20, was also arrested.”
“We interrogated both of them in detail. We sent their mobile phones and the device for a forensic examination. The arrested accused said that he forced his accomplice to place the instrument. What was the real motive behind this whole matter which is still below Investigation?” he said.
When asked what type of device it was, Singh said: “It was a kind of spy camera.”
The owner of the house told the journalists that he had only rented three rooms.
“The girl who was trapped came to live in rental for only four days”, he said.
