Woman undergoing treatment in Idukki dies, death toll rises to 8

Kochi: A 76-year-old woman, who sustained severe burn injuries in the Kalamassery blasts, died here on Thursday afternoon. Among the deceased is Lily John, a native of Vandamattam (Thodupuzha) in Idukki. A few days ago, her husband KA John (77) died of injuries sustained in the blasts.

Lily was undergoing treatment in a private hospital. With his death, the total death toll due to the Kalamassery blast increased by one-third.

The explosions occurred during a meeting of Jehovah’s Witnesses on 29 October. They met for the last day of the three-day prayer meeting.

During multiple explosions at the International Convention Center in Kalamassery, more than 50 people were killed, some seriously.
