World University Games: Sift Kaur, Ashi Choksey finish 1-2 in women’s 50m 3P, India wins two golds

Chengdu (IANS). Rifle shooters Sift Kaur Samra and Aashi Choksey won gold and silver medals as Indian shooters continued to shine at the 31st FISU World University Games with two gold, one silver and one bronze medals on the fourth day of competition on Tuesday.

With these four medals on Tuesday, India and China finished first in shooting with 13 medals each. China topped the medal tally with eight gold, three silver and two bronze medals as compared to India’s 4 gold, four silver and five bronze medals.

Sift Kaur and Aashi finished first and second in the women’s 50m Air Rifle 3-Position event, while both were part of the team that won gold in the women’s 50m Rifle 3-Position on Tuesday Was.

The men’s 10m air pistol team of Arjun Cheema, Varun Tomar and Anmol Jain won the bronze medal.

In the women’s rifle event, Sift Kaur was in fine form as she shot 462.9 to finish ahead of compatriot Aashi Chouksey, who shot 461.6 to win the silver medal. Wang Ziru of China won the bronze medal with a score of 451.1.

The third Indian in the final, Manini Kaushik, was the first to be eliminated after failing to perform well in the first two series.

Sift came away with second best scores of 154.1 and 166.8 in the first two series, with all scores in the 50-plus range. Ashi began the first series with a 49 on the knee and 50.4 and 50.6 in both the prone and standing positions. He scored 52.0, 52.6 and 52.5 in the second series to keep himself in medal contention. In the next series, Sift scored 50.7 and 51.5 while Aashi scored 52.2 and 51.6. Sift held the upper hand and won the gold medal, pushing Ashi into second place.

The Indian women’s team of Aashi, Manini and Sift won the gold medal with a total score of 3527 with 194 inner 10s in the final. China won the silver medal with a score of 3523 (173 ten) and the Czech Republic won the bronze medal with 3501 with a 164 inner 10.

Sift Kaur led the scoring for India with a score of 1180 (66 tons), with Ashi contributing 1174 (67 tons) and Manini Kaushik 1173 (61 tons).

In the 10m air pistol team event, the Indian team of Varun Tomar, Arjun Singh Chema and Anmol Jain finished third with 1730 points and 57 inner 10 scores.

They finished behind South Korea and China topped with 1742 points, but the Koreans had 67 hits in the inner 10 against 61 by the Chinese, thus giving the Koreans the gold medal.
