Yellow alert for heavy rain in 8 districts of Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: The Tamil Nadu Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rain warning for eight districts in the state for Tuesday (May 26). These eight districts, including Coimbatore, Salem, Theni, and Kanyakumari, are expected to experience heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for these areas, advising people to remain vigilant.

In a press release issued by the Chennai Meteorological Department on Monday, it was stated that a low-pressure area is active from the central-eastern Bay of Bengal to the southeast Arabian Sea, as well as the southwest Bay of Bengal, the southern Tamil Nadu coast, the Gulf of Mannar, and the Kumari Sea. This weather system will cause changes in the weather in the state for the next few days.

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is expected in many parts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal from Tuesday (May 26) to May 31. Rainfall accompanied by thunder and lightning is expected at many locations. The weather department has stated that this situation may persist for a few days and local weather fluctuations will be observed.

Heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places, particularly in the hilly areas of Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Nilgiris, Erode, Salem, Theni, Dindigul, and Kanyakumari districts. A warning has also been issued for thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by strong winds in these areas. Consequently, all these districts have been placed under the Yellow Alert category.

A Yellow Alert means that the weather may deteriorate and normal life may be affected, requiring people to exercise caution. The administration has advised locals and tourists to remain vigilant and avoid unnecessary travel, especially in hilly and sensitive areas.

The Meteorological Department has also stated that conditions in the coastal areas may remain unstable as long as the low pressure area remains active. Fishermen have been warned not to venture into the sea, especially in the southwest Bay of Bengal and surrounding coastal areas.

While the rains in many parts of the state are expected to bring a slight drop in temperatures, some areas may also experience waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The administration has also put disaster management teams on alert to respond promptly to any emergencies.
