Yellow alert issued in 16 districts of Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu: The Chennai Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for 16 districts in Tamil Nadu on Monday, June 1st. The Meteorological Department has warned that the weather may remain unstable in many parts of the state for the next few days, with rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds likely at some places. This alert has been issued to alert people about potential adverse weather conditions.

In a press release issued by the Meteorological Department on Sunday, the weather is changing due to the prevailing atmospheric circulation in the southeast Arabian Sea and surrounding areas of South Kerala. Due to this effect, light to moderate rain is expected at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal regions from Monday, June 1st to June 6th. Thunderstorms and lightning are also possible at several places.

Heavy rain is expected in some districts of Tamil Nadu, especially on Monday. These include the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Theni, Karur, Namakkal, Erode, Salem, Trichy, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri, Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, and Tiruvannamalai districts. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rain are likely at one or two locations in these areas.

The Meteorological Department stated that sudden weather changes may occur in some areas during this period, disrupting normal life. Due to the possibility of heavy rain and lightning, people have been advised to avoid outdoor activities. Farmers and those living in rural areas have also been urged to exercise special caution to prevent damage to crops and livestock.

This weather change is being considered a sign of pre-monsoon activity across much of South India. Although the monsoon has not yet formally begun, atmospheric conditions have already triggered rainfall activity. According to weather experts, such conditions may become more active in the coming days.

The Chennai Meteorological Department has also asked the administrations of all concerned districts to remain on alert so that immediate relief and rescue operations can be carried out in case of any emergency. The general public has also been advised to monitor weather updates and take necessary precautions.

Thus, the situation in Tamil Nadu is being continuously monitored in view of the changing weather patterns over the next few days. The purpose of the Yellow Alert is to alert people in advance of potential danger, so that any untoward incident can be avoided.
