Students walk 4 kilometres to meet district collector, complaint about their school problem

Baripada: A group of students in Mayurbhanj district staged a unique protest in order to draw the attention of the concerned officials to their problems.

According to reports, the students of Puradihi Government Upper Primary School in Gopabandhunagar block walked about 4 kilometres and reached Udala where the district collector was conducting the grievance hearing.

After reaching the spot, the students sat on the ground and started to study as a mark of their protest against the state government’s decision to demolish their classrooms.

As claimed by the students, over 130 students were studying in this school but they had only two classrooms. After repeated protest, the Block Development Officer (BDO) conducted an inspection and sanctioned money earlier this year to construct three more classrooms for them to study.

With the completion of the construction, the students were using the three rooms for their hustle-free classes. However, the Tahasildar has now issued a notice to the school authority to demolish the three newly constructed classrooms.

Protesting against the Tahasildar’s notification, the students today staged the unique protest by studying near his grievance cell and requested the collector not to demolish the three newly constructed classrooms.
