114 best primary schools awarded on 14th November
Chennai: The Department of Elementary Education has announced the list of 114 best schools in the state selected by an appointed committee. The schools will be awarded on Children’s Day (14 November) in Chennai. According to the department’s circular, school principals, dedicated teachers and district education officers, which have been recognized as the best schools in the area, have been directed to gather at the Anna Centenary Library in Kotturpuram on November 14.
School Education Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi will distribute the awards to the shortlisted schools.
A minimum of 3 primary to middle schools have been selected from each district by the committee. From Chennai, the shortlisted schools are: Chennai Urdu Girls Government Middle School, Old Washermanpet in Royapuram circle, Sri RKMSV Middle School (SRMS) in T Nagar circle and CIS Middle School, Sembium in Perambur circle.
A teacher from one of the shortlisted schools said, “It is inspiring to be shortlisted as one of the best schools in the state. For our school, we have been taking various creative and practical initiatives, which have helped our students to understand the subjects better. Additionally, we have also paid great attention to building the school infrastructure, so that our students have all the necessary equipment.”
Meanwhile, a top official of the department said that the responsibility of shortlisting the schools for the award will be the responsibility of the Chief Education Officer (CEO) of the concerned district. “The department has been giving the award every year since 2002. The current announcement has been made for the 2022-23 academic year,” the official said.
