16 cattle washed away in Kharun river, bodies of 3 found

Durg. On Friday, 16 cattle were washed away in the strong current of the Kharun river flowing through the fort of Chhattisgarh. During this, three cattle were trapped in the water hyacinth of the river. On receiving the information, the administration team took out three cattle with the help of JCB. Although by then he had died. The rest of the cattle are yet to be traced. According to the information, due to rain these days the Kharun river is in spate. A shepherd had left his cattle on the bank of the river. During this the cattle got caught in the river and got washed away. Going ahead, more than 12 cattle got trapped in water hyacinth. An attempt was made to rescue them from JCB, but only three cattle were found. He also died. The rest were swept away by the current of the river.” Kumhari police station in-charge Keshav Ram Kosle said that 16 cattle were washed away by the strong current in the Kharun river, out of which the bodies of three cattle have been recovered. Rest of the cattle are also being rescued. The herder had left his cattle on the bank of the river. These days the water level of Kharun river has increased continuously. On contacting Radhelal Yadav, a resident of Ward No. 2, the owner of the cattle, and asking for information, he told that his son Dinesh Yadav goes to the banks of the Kharun river via Kumhari Bade Talab to graze 21 cattle every day, even on Thursday morning. Had gone near the river for grazing but he left the buffaloes for grazing and came home around 10 am to eat food. As soon as after eating, at 11 o’clock he again went to the said place to graze the cattle, but the cattle were not found in the said place, after searching for hours, he doubted, then he saw in the water hyacinth lying in the river. He saw that a large number of his buffaloes were trapped in the water hyacinth. Removal of water hyacinth from nearby JCB revealed that most of the buffaloes had died which due to strong current of water their bodies reached Akola Ghat, 5 km from Kumhari, some were found stranded in Akola Anicut. Dinesh Yadav, the son of a cattle herder, told that out of 21 buffaloes, only 4 came home, while the remaining 17 cattle died due to getting trapped in water hyacinth. Ward No. 3 councilor Thanesh Patel, as soon as he got the information about them, collected information from the owner of the cattle and informed it to the police department, on which a case was registered on the information of the cattle rearer. Due to this calamity the animal owner was said to have suffered irreparable loss.
