17 people died due to leakage of poisonous gas
New Delhi. A tragic accident happened in South Africa. Poisonous gas leaked while extracting illegal gold from the closed mine here. Due to this, 17 people including one year old child died. While 10 people have been admitted to the hospital in critical condition. This incident took place near the city of Boksburg, east of Johannesburg, South Africa. An official told that a four-year-old child is also included in the 17 people who died. It is being told that this mine has been closed for a long time. People living around here were working illegally in this mine. The official said that highly toxic nitrate oxide gas was being used to extract illegal gold from the mine. According to the information, initially 11 people were admitted to the hospital in critical condition. After this, the death toll increased to 17 one by one. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has expressed his condolences to the families of those killed. A statement from his office said he has ordered investigators to look into the incident closely to avoid similar incidents in the future. Gauteng Health Minister Nomantu Nkomo-Ralehoko said survivors of the Boksburg gas leak are recovering. He said that the condition of those who are inside is much better. There is a 2-month-old baby girl in ward one, but her condition is fine. She is breathing on her own. Forensic experts have been deployed to investigate the incident. A local official said that helicopters were also used to search the area, but there were no reports of any other casualties. The Health Minister gave instructions to take immediate action against illegal miners. Those who are working in closed mines across the province.
