2 dead as mortar shell carried by explodes in West Bengal’s Jalpaiguri
Jalpaiguri: At least two persons were killed and four others injured in Jalpaiguri district of West bengal as a mortar shell carried by the floodwaters of Teesta river, exploded.
The incident took place on Thursday evening, in the Chatra Para area of the Jalpaiguri district.
The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained and four others injured persons have been shifted to hospital for medical treatment, informed police.
Meanwhile, the Jalpaiguri Police has issued an advisory urging people not to handle any firearms or explosives flowing down the river.
The death toll in the flash flood in Sikkim has mounted to 19.
Of the 23 army personnel who were missing from the Burdang area, the bodies of seven were recovered from different areas downstream while one was rescued.
Chief Minister PS Tamang said the search for 15 missing jawans was still on.
