Sukma. In the district, two Naxalites, including a prize money of one lakh rupees, surrendered on Thursday. The Maoists surrendered before the police and officers of the 2nd Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force, a senior official said, citing disappointment with the “inhuman” and “hollow” Maoist ideology. Police identified them as Chetna Natya, a cultural wing of the Maoists. Mandali (CNM) commander Vetti Raja and militia member Rava Soma. There was a reward of one lakh rupees on the king.

The two told the police that they were also influenced by the district police’s rehabilitation campaign for Naxalites called ‘Poona Narkom’ (a word coined in the local Gondi dialect meaning new dawn or new beginning). The police said that the Naxalites who surrendered would be provided facilities as per the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the Chhattisgarh government.
