20 devotees stranded in Narmada river after water was released from Omkareshwar dam
Khandwa (IANS) | Due to release of water from Omkareshwar dam, the water level of Narmada river increased and more than 20 people who were taking bath fell from the water. All these people somehow climbed the rock to save their lives, later all were taken out safely. It has been told that a large number of devotees were taking bath in the Narmada river on Sunday morning. These were the people who had come from different places to offer prayers at the Omkareshwar temple, when water was released from the Omkareshwar dam, the water level of the Narmada river rose and there was chaos among the people taking bath in the river. Frightened by the rising water level, people started shouting and climbed on the rocks to save their lives.
Hearing the voices of the devotees, the divers and the citizens turned towards the people trapped in the water. All of them together pulled out the people who climbed the rock safely.
Officials have told that three to four turbines were started in the morning by NHDC for power generation, before this sirens were also played to keep people apart. Bathers in the Narmada river were asked to come out of the water, but some people did not agree. The label gradually increased when water was released from the turbine.
