23 people injured in building fire, condition of 4 critical
Colombo: At least 24 people were injured in a fire in an eight-storey building in Colombo, the capital of Sri Lanka, out of which the condition of four is said to be critical.
According to the report of Xinhua news agency, according to the police, the injured have been admitted to the National Hospital.
A hospital spokesperson told the media that the injured people had suffered burns or were suffering from respiratory problems.
He said that the condition of four of the injured is critical.
Colombo Fire Chief P.D.K.A. Wilson said that the fire broke out at around 9.30 am in the building located in Pettah area of the city.
He said the Colombo Fire Brigade sent 11 fire engines and 45 firefighters to extinguish the fire. It took them several hours to control the fire.
The cause of the fire is not yet known. Colombo Fort Police is investigating.
