At least six security personnel were killed and 16 injured when terrorists attacked a police station in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Tuesday. The officers provided this information. Suicide bombers attacked the Darban police station in the restive Dera Ismail Khan district, bordering the South Waziristan tribal district. The terrorists rammed a vehicle laden with explosives into the police station building and then attacked it with mortars. Police said at least six security personnel were killed and 16 injured in the exchange of fire between security forces and the attackers following the attack.
Official sources said security forces killed all the attackers while fresh police contingents were rushed to the spot and a search operation was later launched. Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan (TJP), a relatively unknown terrorist organization, claimed responsibility for the attack. This terrorist organization has been behind some major attacks in Pakistan. Its spokesperson Mulla Qasim termed the attack as a suicide mission (fidayeen attack). The attack led to an emergency being declared in hospitals in the district while all schools and colleges were closed.
