27 died in inferno at petrol station in Southern Russia

Moscow: In a tragic incident, an explosion at a petrol station in Dagestan, a part of southern Russia, has led to the loss of 27 lives, including three children. Reports suggest that around 120 people have also been injured due to the blast.

The terrible incident took place in Makhachkala, which is located by the Caspian Sea, around 9:40 PM local time on Monday, as reported by the BBC.

While the cause of the explosion and the resulting fire remains unclear.

Images from the scene show a large fire lighting up the night sky, with several fire trucks working to control the blaze. Around 260 emergency workers have been deployed to the area to manage the situation. The fire has reportedly spread over an area spanning 600 square meters.

One person, who preferred to stay anonymous, shared their experience with the Russian newspaper Izvestia. They mentioned that the fire initially started in a car lot across from the petrol station. The witness recalled, “After the explosion, everything fell on our heads. We couldn’t see anything anymore.”

Dagestan is a region in southern Russia and is one of the parts that make up the country. Its capital, Makhachkala, is situated about 1,600 kilometers away from Moscow.
