3 arrested for demanding extortion
Puri: At least three people were arrested and sent to court on charges of extortion at two different places in Odisha’s Puri district today. In the first case, a man named Abhishek Pradhan had extorted money from the limits of Kumbharpada police station in Puri city. He allegedly showed a knife to a shopkeeper on Red Cross Road and demanded ‘Dada Bati’.
Pradhan also allegedly threatened to kill the shopkeeper if he refused to pay the money. However, after a complaint was filed against him by the shopkeeper, the police arrested him and later sent him to court.
In the second such incident, police from Beslisahi and Talabania police stations arrested Tirupathi Nayak and Raja Das for illegally collecting money from tourists and shop owners in Gadanti Chhaka. After their arrest, both were brought to justice.
