3 arrested for demanding extortion money for gold worth Rs 20 lakh
Gurugram: Three accused involved in the extortion of gold worth Rs 20 lakh from a city jeweler in Gurugram have been arrested, police said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Varun Dahiya said police received a complaint from a city-based jeweler that he had received a threatening letter along with a memory card inside his shop on October 21.
The extortionist called the victim under the bridge of Agra-Yamuna Expressway with gold worth Rs 20 lakh. He said that if he did not return with the gold, he and his family were given death threats and their business shops and warehouses would be set on fire.
After this the complainant got so scared that he himself arranged for Rs 2 lakh to save his family and business.
“On October 22, the victim dropped Rs 2 lakh with his brother near Yamuna Expressway Naseebpur Cut and they returned to their home. The next day they got a call from the criminals and later they reported the matter to the police,” he said.
Based on a complaint, a case was registered under relevant sections of the IPC at Shivaji Nagar police station in Gurugram.
During investigation, the Crime Branch team of Gurugram Police arrested the three accused from Khandsa Road Shakti Park, Gurugram on Thursday.

They have been identified as Rajendra Singh from Uttar Pradesh, Sanjay Kumar from Bihar and Hazari Prasad from Uttar Pradesh.
During interrogation, the accused told that Rajendra and Sanjay work in the same company and accused Hazari Prasad is the nephew of accused Rajendra.
Rajendra and Sanjay used to bring goods from the complainant’s shop and they knew that the complainant’s work was good and his earning was also good.
“Rajender along with his associate committed the crime. The suspects will be taken on police remand for further questioning,” the ACP said.
