3 people killed, 49 injured in collision between two trains
Cairo: Two trains collided in Sharqia province, north of the Egyptian capital Cairo. At least three people were killed and 49 others were injured in the accident. According to news agency Xinhua, the ministry said in a statement on Saturday that 44 people suffered minor injuries. At the same time, five other people are seriously injured, who are being treated in the hospital.
The ministry had earlier said that 39 ambulances were sent to the accident site in Zagazig city of Sharqia to evacuate the injured. Meanwhile, Hazem al-Ashmouni, governor of Sharqia province, told Egypt’s local Extra News TV channel that all passengers from both trains have been evacuated and efforts are underway to restore train traffic on the railway line.
The Egyptian National Railway Authority said in a statement that a committee of railway experts has been formed to find out the technical causes of the accident.
