4 crore drugs seized, 1 arrested
Guwahati. Drugs worth Rs 4 crore were seized during a joint operation by the police and the Border Security Force (BSF) in Assam’s Karimganj district. Officials gave this information on Friday. A senior police officer told IANS that based on a tip-off, the operation was carried out in Kayasthagram area on Thursday. A vehicle going towards Tripura border was stopped by security personnel and on thorough checking, drugs were found hidden in soap boxes. The officer said, “We found 768 grams of drugs hidden in 50 soap boxes. The estimated value of the seized drugs is around Rs 4 crore.” Shiffer Uddin, who was driving the vehicle, has been arrested on charges of drug trafficking. Appreciating the efforts of the security personnel, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted: “Karimganj police and BSF jointly intercepted a vehicle at Kayasthagram market and seized 50 soap boxes containing 768 grams of heroin. Also caught an accused. Great teamwork, keep it up.”
