4 to 6 naxalites feared injured in police-naxalite encounter
Sukma. An encounter took place between security forces and Naxalites in the district on Saturday. There is a possibility of 4-6 Naxalites being killed or injured in the encounter. According to a police release, an encounter took place between the security forces and the Naxalites in Chhotekedwal, the core area of Chintagufa police station in the district. Information was received about the presence of about 30-35 Naxalites along with DVCM Raju, in-charge of Kistaram Area Committee, and Masa, in-charge of Platoon No. 08, in the forests of Chhotekedwal, Badekedwal and Singhanamadgu, the border villages of Chintagufa and Kistaram police station, and the celebration of Martyr’s Week by Naxalites. On information, a team of Cobra Battalion of DRG and Central Reserve Police Force was sent for anti-Naxal operation. During the operation this morning in Chhotekedwal forests, Naxalites opened indiscriminate firing with the intention of killing and looting the security forces personnel, in response to which the DRG jawans also fired. The firing from both sides lasted for about an hour. After this the Naxalites fled from there. Four to six Naxalites are likely to have been killed in the encounter, who were taken away by their accomplices. The police force personnel are still on the operation and more information will be available in this regard after their return. It may be noted that the Naxalites celebrate the annual Martyr’s Week from July 28 to August 3 in memory of their slain leaders.
