Uttarkashi: People trapped in the tunnel being built on Yamunotri Highway in Uttarkashi could not be rescued even after three days. The administration’s efforts to rescue the workers since 5 am on Sunday are proving unsuccessful. After three days, the patience of the workers finally broke. The friends of the workers trapped inside the tunnel demonstrated fiercely outside the tunnel. The mob of angry workers also demolished the police barricades. The police somehow pacified the workers by using mild force.
Relief and rescue work is going on to save the lives of people trapped inside the tunnel in Uttarkashi. The Air Force plane has landed at Chinyalisaur carrying a new drilling machine. The Air Force cargo plane landed at Chinyalisaur on Wednesday afternoon. The drilling machine will reach the tunnel by Wednesday evening. The work is expected to start by night.
There are reports of ill health of some of the laborers trapped in the Silkyara Tunnel of Uttarkashi. The workers gave this information from inside during a piped conversation on Tuesday morning. He said that some people complained of vomiting. A senior official also confirmed this.
40 workers are trapped in the tunnel since 5 am on Sunday. It has been the third day since they were trapped in the tunnel on Tuesday. If his night shift period is also included, till 5 pm on Tuesday he had spent more than 60 hours inside the tunnel.
In such a situation, it is natural for them to feel nervous due to being locked inside. Senior doctor Dr. Prem Singh Pokhriyal, present on the spot, said that information has been received that two-three laborers are ill. Medicines have been sent for them. Perhaps due to being locked inside, they are feeling some nervousness or restlessness. His health will improve rapidly with medicines. Dr. Pokhriyal gave health related information to the workers. Precautions to be taken during the period of being stranded were also explained.
