4,023 candidates in the fray for Tamil Nadu Assembly elections: District-wise details released

Tamil Nadu: The Election Commission has officially announced that there are a total of 4,023 candidates contesting the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections.
The highest number of candidates is in Karur, at 79. The Perambur constituency has 47 candidates, where Thaveka Thalaivar Vijay is contesting. The lowest number of candidates is in Ambasamudram and Kinathukadavu constituencies, at 5 each. Udupi and Gudalur have six candidates each. In a district-wise comparison, the highest number of candidates is in Chennai district, where 419 candidates are contesting for 16 seats. This is followed by Salem district, which has 193 candidates.
A total of 7,599 petitions were filed across all 234 seats in the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. The officials who reviewed them rejected 2,460 petitions because they did not comply with the relevant rules.
Subsequently, the petitions filed by other candidates and multiple petitions filed in the name of the same candidate were withdrawn. The Election Commission subsequently released the final list of candidates. Election officials released the list by constituency.
Across Tamil Nadu, 4,023 candidates are in the fray. More than 60 constituencies across the state have been given star status, including Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s Kolathur, Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi’s Chepakkam-Thiruvallikeni, Leader of the Opposition Edappadi Palaniswami’s Edappadi, Thaveka leader Vijay’s Perambur and Trichy East, and Karaikudi, where NTAK’s Chief Coordinator Seeman is contesting.
In addition, increased attention has been paid to constituencies contested by sitting MLAs and former ministers.
