5 lakh fine on beggars

Raipur. The condition of begging in trains passing through South East Central Railway is such that every year more than 400 people are caught here. They are also being fined under the Railway Act. Statistics show that as of 2000, they are being charged a fine of up to Rs 5 lakh, yet the practice of begging in trains has not stopped. Begging gangs from UP and Bihar are active in most of the trains. More than 80 complaints are received every year in the Twitter accounts of RPF and DRM.

When a newspaper investigated, it was found that every year RPF takes action against more than 7 thousand people in dozens of cases including littering in trains, crossing railway tracks, chain pulling, illegal vending, in which more than 400 cases are registered only. We are against those who resort to extortion and begging from passengers. Let us tell you that according to Section 144 of the Railway Act 1989, begging in a train, railway platform or other railway premises is a crime. This includes imprisonment or fine or both.
