53 people injured in major Russian missile attack
Kiev: Vitaliy Klitschko, mayor of the Ukrainian capital, said at least 53 people were injured in a major Russian missile attack on Kiev on Wednesday. Eighteen adults and two children were hospitalized, while the rest received medical treatment on site, Xinhua news agency quoted Klitschko as saying in a Telegram post.
The mayor confirmed that a children’s hospital, an apartment building, private houses and cars were damaged by airstrikes in the Eastern Dniprovsky and Southeastern Darnitsky districts. The Ukrainian Air Force said in a statement that it had intercepted all 10 ballistic missiles fired against Kiev.
This airstrike is the second attack on the Ukrainian capital this week.
Wednesday’s attack came as President Volodymyr Zelensky completed his third visit to Washington in a last-ditch effort to secure new military aid from the US Congress before the currently approved amount runs out.
On Tuesday, he held a session with US senators behind closed doors and sat down with Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, who also did not appear publicly with the Ukrainian president.
His reception at the White House was decidedly low-key, with less pomp and ceremony.
While Democrats are keen to spend more money on border security as part of a $110 billion package of military aid to Ukraine, Israel and Taiwan, Republicans are keen to see the US government crack down on undocumented migrants claiming political asylum. Want fundamental improvement in the method.
