7 Tamils Die in Road Accident in Nepal: Tamil Nadu Government Takes Steps to Repatriate Bodies

Tamil Nadu: Seven Tamil individuals on a spiritual pilgrimage to Nepal have died in a road accident. The Tamil Nadu government has taken steps to repatriate their bodies and to bring back those injured in the accident.
A group of 24 people—hailing from Pollachi in Coimbatore district and Devakottai in Sivaganga district—were on a pilgrimage to the Manakamana Temple in Nepal. On Saturday, while they were en route to the temple, the tourist vehicle in which they were traveling lost control in the Manakamana area and plunged into a 400-foot-deep gorge. The accident claimed the lives of seven people, including Muthukumar (55)—a resident of CDC Colony, Pollachi, in Coimbatore district—his wife (48), and Tamilarasi (the wife of Babu). Seven other individuals sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at the Siddhavan Old Medical College Hospital.
Upon receiving this information, the Tamil Nadu government’s ‘Department for the Welfare of Tamils Abroad’ took immediate steps to ensure medical treatment for the injured and to repatriate the bodies of the deceased to Tamil Nadu. These measures were undertaken in coordination with representatives of the Tamil Sangam in Nepal, ‘Tamil Nadu House’ in New Delhi, and the Union Ministry of External Affairs.
The bodies of the deceased are being transported to Kathmandu for post-mortem examinations; from there, they will be brought to Chennai Airport shortly.
Arrangements are also being made to transport the bodies from Chennai to their respective hometowns; the Tamil Nadu government’s free ambulance services will be utilized for this purpose.
A press release issued by the Tamil Nadu government states that appropriate measures are being implemented to ensure proper medical care for the injured and to facilitate their return home as soon as possible.
