Karva Chauth: The festival of Karva Chauth is celebrated on the Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. On the day of Karva Chauth, there is a tradition of fasting for the whole day which is known as Karva Chauth Vrat or Karva Chauth Vrat.

On this day, married women observe a strict fast from sunrise to moonrise to ensure the safety and longevity of their husbands’ lives. Women complete their fast only after the moon rises in the evening. There are many other beliefs and traditions associated with this fast, which make it special. Karva Chauth is celebrated in states like Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Gujarat and Rajasthan etc. Let us know when this fast will be observed this time and when will the moon rise on Karva Chauth.

When will Karva Chauth be celebrated?
Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month starts: 31 October, Tuesday, from 09:30 pm.
Chaturthi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month ends: 1 November, Wednesday, at 09:19 pm
Both sunrise and moonrise of Chaturthi Tithi will be on 1st November, hence Karva Chauth fast will be observed on this day.

According to the Panchang, this time it is on Karva Chauth i.e. on 1st November, Wednesday. So according to this the time of moonrise will be 08:15 pm. In such a situation, there may be a difference of 5 to 7 minutes in the time of moonrise at different places.

Astrology and mythological beliefs related to moon worship on Karva Chauth
There are many beliefs and traditions associated with Karva Chauth which make this festival even more special. According to tradition, the fast of women is completed only after worshiping the Moon on this day. Astrology and religious reasons are behind this tradition.
According to astrology, Moon is the factor of mind. On Karva Chauth, Moon is in its exalted sign Taurus and with the most beloved wife Rohini. Moon worship done in this position makes married life more happy. Therefore there is a tradition of worshiping the moon on Karva Chauth.
According to mythological belief, there is a story in Ramayana regarding the worship of Moon. Once Shri Ram saw the moon shining towards the east and asked why there is blackness in the moon. People gave different arguments on this. Then Lord Ram said that the blackness of the moon is due to its poison and due to this it keeps burning the husband and wife living separately. Therefore, married women worship the Moon and pray that they never have to stay away from their husbands and they are able to lead a happy married life.
