8 EMU trains partially cancelled, diverted due to track maintenance work in Chennai

Tamil Nadu: Passengers in Chennai may face inconvenience on Saturday (May 23) as the Chennai Railway Division has announced the partial cancellation of eight EMU trains. A press release issued by the railway administration stated that this action was taken due to track and technical maintenance work.
According to information, track and technical maintenance work will be carried out near the Kattankolathur Workshop on the Egmore-Villupuram section of the Chennai Suburban Railway on Saturday from 11:30 am to 5:00 pm. Consequently, the operation of several trains on this route has been altered.
According to railway officials, some trains will be partially operated on a limited route during this maintenance work, keeping safety and operational considerations in mind. Due to this, passengers may have to change their travel plans.
Under the new arrangement, four EMU trains from Chennai Beach to Chengalpattu will now operate only up to Kuduvancheri Railway Station. These include trains departing at 11:40 am, 12:28 pm, 12:40 pm, and 1:56 pm.
Four trains running back from Chengalpattu to Chennai Beach will also be affected. These trains will no longer depart from Chengalpattu, but will originate from Tambaram station and reach Chennai Beach. The affected trains are scheduled for 12:00 pm, 1:10 pm, 1:45 pm, and 2:20 pm.
The Railway Department has urged passengers to check the revised schedule before traveling to avoid any inconvenience. The department states that this maintenance work is necessary to ensure safe and smooth rail services in the future.
Local passengers have expressed mixed reactions to this temporary change. Some passengers expressed concerns about the sudden route change, while others expressed support, calling it a necessary improvement.
Railway officials have clarified that normal services will be restored once the work is completed. For now, passengers have been advised to use alternative trains and routes during the affected time period.
While this move will temporarily impact Chennai’s suburban railway network, the railways maintain that the work is being carried out with the long-term safety and convenience of passengers in mind.
