8 new short-term courses at ITIs to meet ind requirement

To fulfill requirement of the industry, the directorate of skill development and entrepreneurship (DSDE) has decided to offer eight new short-term courses at industrial training institutes (ITIs) in Goa under the Chief Minister’s Kaushalya Path Scheme (CMKPS).

The eight courses include 3D designing and 3D printing, bonsai, denting and painting, PLC VFD HMI industrial automation, basic sewing technology, basic beautician, basic electrician (domestic appliances) and basic food production. The duration of these courses ranges between four days to three months.

The directorate has asked interested candidates to enroll for the courses at the nearest ITIs or at its office. It said that batches for these courses will be formed depending upon the response. The last date for submitting applications is March 8.The state government had launched CMKPS last year for skilling, re-skilling and up-skilling maximum number of local youth and to provide skilled work force to Industry as per their demand.

The 3D designing and 3D printing course has been proposed at government ITI, Vasco; denting and painting at a workshop of an automotive organisation; basic sewing technology at government ITI Margao and Sattari; basic beautician at government ITIs in Margao, Bicholim and Sattari; basic electrician (domestic appliances) at government ITI in Cacora and basic food production at government ITI in Margao.DSDE director S S Gaonkar said, “Today there is huge demand for skilled workforce in the industrial sector. If any industry has any requirement for a particular trade, they can approach DSDE and we can get their workforce trained under this scheme. We want to get the youth industry ready.”For some courses, the entry eligibility is standard VIII pass and above, while for some it is SSC pass and above, among others.The courses under CMKPS are as per the industry needs to bridge the gap between demand and supply of skilled manpower.The scheme aims at conducting short-term training as well as Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). The skill of unrecognised experienced craftsman will be assessed and certified under RPL component of this scheme.Skill sectors concentrated under the scheme are hospitality, tourism, construction, automotive, IT, beauty and wellness, shipbuilding and pharmaceutical.
