8-Year-Old Boy Dies After Deadly Kite String Slits His Throat While Cycling in Surat

Gujarat: Kite flying festival is one of the prominent festival celebrated in Makar Sankranti. However, many accidents also occur during this time due to Chinese kite strings. Similar incident has come to light from Surat city in Gujarat were a 8-year-old boy tragically died after getting entangled in a Chinese kite string.
On January 15th, 8-year-old Rehan, son of Amol Borse and resident of Anand Villa Residency in Surat’s Jahangirpura area, died in a tragic accident. While cycling with friends in his society, a Chinese kite string became entangled around his neck. Video footage shows Rehan stopping and attempting to remove the string, but his throat was severely cut within 15 seconds, resulting in his immediate death.
Tragic accidents involving deadly Chinese kite strings have occurred recently in multiple locations. In Karnataka, Sanjay Kumar Hosanamani (48), a resident of Bambulgi village, Bidar taluk, died near Talamadgi village, Chitguppa taluk, when a Chinese kite string slit his throat while he was riding his motorcycle to Humnabad to pick up his daughter. Similarly, in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, Dr. Sameer Hashmi, a physiotherapist, died on the Pachhatia-Azamgarh highway after a Chinese kite string cut his throat.
Despite a ban in many states, the open sale and use of this dangerous string continues to claim lives, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement.
