Punjab: Virsa Singh Valtora serving at the Golden Temple.

Punjab: A day after five Sikh jathedars (religious leaders) pronounced religious punishment on Akali leader Virsa Singh Valtoha and four others, they performed ‘sewa’ (selfless service) by washing utensils and cleaning shoes at the Golden Temple on Tuesday morning to complete their ‘tankhah’ (religious penance). They began their penance by washing dishes at the Guru Ram Das Ji Langar Hall and the Jora Ghar (shoe house).
They were punished for making derogatory remarks against the jathedars in October 2024. They also apologized for recording audio without permission. The Sikh religious leaders lifted the 10-year ban imposed on them by the SAD last year. Harwinder Singh, a Sikh preacher based in the UK, also performed ‘sewa’. He was found guilty of using disrespectful language against a Guru.
