Eight-hour power cut across South Goa on December 17
Margao: The electricity department has decided to impose massive power shutdown next Sunday, December 17.
The power department said planned maintenance is important for the maintenance of extra high voltage (EHV) substations, thereby ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the power infrastructure in the district.
Superintending Engineer (SE), Margao (Circle-I, South) said there will be no power supply in the entire South Goa district between 7 am and 3 pm. However, major parts of Ponda taluka and specific areas like Raya, Curtorim, Lutolim and Maczana will be exempted from the outage.
The planned shutdown will affect the entire talukas of Canacona, Salcete (except Ria, Curtorim, Lutolim and Macanaza), Sanguem, Quepem, Mormugao and parts of Dharbandora taluka, including gram panchayats Kirlapal-Dabal, Shigao-Kolem, Molem and . Part of Ponda Taluka, i.e., Gram Panchayat Panchwadi.
Industrial estate in South Goa and Selaulim water works in Zelpem will also experience power disruption.
The annual shutdown is scheduled for maintenance of particularly critical 220KV and 110KV extra high voltage (EHV) interstate and intrastate lines as well as EHV substations at Zeldam, Cuncolim and Verna. The initiative aims to enhance the reliability and efficiency of power infrastructure in the region, focusing on key substations and transmission lines.
