Army rescues more than 1,200 tourists stranded in Sikkim
The Indian Army rescued 1,217 tourists stranded in the highlands in east Sikkim due to snowfall and bad weather, officials said on Thursday. He said the Army’s three-pronged rescue operation continued till the early hours of Wednesday night, when the tourists were shifted to safe areas. Officials said they are making arrangements to return to the state capital Gangtok. He said soldiers also gave up their quarters to allow accommodation for stranded tourists.
