Over 250 delegates attend two-day conference on importance of millets in Tamil Nadu
CHENNAI: A two-day international conference was inaugurated on Thursday to highlight the importance of Mizos for food security and sustainability. The conference, Foods 2023, was organized by the Department of Food Science of MOP Vaishnav College for Women (Autonomous) and was attended by over 250 delegates from across the country.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Archana Prasad, Director of the University, in the presence of invitees Principal C Anandramakrishnan, Director of Instituto National de Science and Technology Interdisciplinaria CSIR, Thiruvananthapuram and special guest Israel Oliver Kind, Director of Biodiversity. Anandramakrishnan highlights the role of millet as a superfood, focusing on various processing techniques that can help enhance nutritional quality and the challenges faced during processing. King provided insight into nutritional poverty in India and the dependence of Mizo farming on local food culture. It also stressed the need to strengthen resilience and mainstream the Mizos through public policies.
