Coromandel says normalcy restored after ammonia leak at Chennai plant
New Delhi: Coromandel International on Wednesday said normalcy has been restored at its Ennore plant in Chennai following reports of ammonia gas leak.
“As part of routine operations, we observed abnormality in the ammonia unloading sub-sea pipeline near the coast, outside the plant premises at 23.30 hrs on 26/12/2023. Our standard operating procedures were immediately activated, and we isolated the ammonia system facility and brought the situation back to normal in the shortest possible time,” the company said.
“During the procedure, some members of the local community expressed discomfort and were immediately given medical assistance. Everyone is safe and normalcy has been restored. We have informed the concerned authorities about the incident. Coromandel has always adhered to the highest safety standards and emergency response systems”, it said.
Coromandel International’s stock is down more than 2 per cent at Rs 1,231 on BSE.
