New Delhi: The threat of drones on the border with Pakistan will end in 6 months

The use of drones to smuggle arms and narcotics from across the border into Indian territory will end in the next six months as an indigenous anti-drone technology is being developed to stop all such misadventures by anti-national elements, a senior government official said. is being developed. ,

Security agencies are working on three designs of anti-drone technology and the end result could be a combination of all three or all three.

The official said, “With the use of drones, the menace of cross-border smuggling of arms and drugs will be eliminated in the next six months. Certainly by then anti-drone technology will be installed.”

Testing on the new technology is underway and is in the final stages.

Dropping arms, ammunition and narcotics from Pakistan using drones or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) into Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir has been a major problem for security agencies for many years.

The government had reported in August that 53 cases had been detected where drones were used to smuggle arms and narcotics across the border in Punjab in the last three years.

Several steps have been taken by the government to curb this menace and these include effective round-the-clock control of the borders by BSF, surveillance, patrolling, setting up of checkpoints and deployment of observation posts along the International Border.

In March last year, Union Minister of State for Home Nisith Pramanik had said that the Home Ministry has set up an Anti-Rogue Drone Technology Committee under the supervision of the Director General of the Border Security Force, with the aim of evaluating the technology available to combat rogue drones. Drones and Rouges attest to its effectiveness in combating drones.
