To harm Bihar cricket, factionalism has once again started raising its head
New Delhi: Factionalism is nothing new to Bihar cricket and the ugly infighting that has lasted for two decades, apart from attracting the ire of the BCCI, has also robbed the state of some notable talent.
Bihar has already lost the services of Patna-born and brought-up Ishan Kishan and Gopalganj-based fast bowler Mukesh Kumar to Jharkhand and Bengal respectively. They had to leave their motherland to pursue cricket careers in a more sustainable environment.
The latest incident of this unpleasant incident came to light in Patna on Friday when two teams reached Moin-ul-Haq Stadium to play Ranji Trophy Elite B Group match against Mumbai.
One team was selected by Bihar Cricket Association Secretary Amit Kumar and the other team was selected with the blessings of BCA President Rakesh Tiwari.
Ultimately, the team which was supported by Tiwary and captained by experienced left-arm spinner Ashutosh Aman played against the 41-time champions.
“First of all, why should they choose Moin-ul-Haq Stadium for this match? Urja Stadium in Rajbansi Nagar has better facilities which is in Patna itself. Such episodes will only harm Bihar cricket because our There are a lot of talented cricketers,” former BCA official and original petitioner in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing case Aditya Verma told PTI.
The discord in the BCA dates back to 2002 when the BCCI, under the leadership of its then president Jagmohan Dalmiya, suspended the association run by former chief minister Lalu Prasad Yadav.
The Dalmia regime recognized the faction led by Amitabh Chaudhary, who later became the acting secretary of the BCCI.
In between, the pool became more dubious after former Indian all-rounder Kirti Azad formed the Association of Bihar Cricket, while Verma and Prem Ranjan Patel formed the Cricket Association of Bihar.
“At one time, there were four (cricket) associations in Bihar. What happened was that the administration went awry and the money from the BCCI also stopped until the restoration of the state in 2018,” said a veteran cricket coach on condition of anonymity. ” ,
He said, “But in the meantime, the state lost many players to other states. No one can blame them because who wants to get stuck in this dirty situation where a young cricketer has to face the authorities to even get a chance in the selection trials. Have to pay bribe.” Added.
Verma agreed. He said, “The administration under Tiwari is a complete failure. They are only interested in politics, not cricket. We are trying to seek legal recourse and find a way forward for Bihar cricket, which is a case of mismanagement.” Can’t stand any more rounds.” The experienced coach agreed.
“Many officials join the association only to make money. They have the least interest in the development of cricket. We have given a chance to a 12-year-old player (Vaibhav Suryavanshi), and if he decides to go to someone else So I wouldn’t be surprised. Tell me soon so that he can develop into a better player.” However, Tiwari was not impressed by this.
“We are elected democratically. The secretary has been suspended (by the court), so he cannot select the team. But the state has many talents like Vaibhav and recently a player (Saqib Hussain) was selected for the IPL. Was selected (for) by KKR),” Tiwary claimed.
“We are trying to create proper infrastructure for the game. It will take some time, because we have returned (to first-class cricket) only about six years ago. I am not really worried about all these allegations, Because we have a job at hand,” he added.
