Supreme Court’s order in Bilkis Bano case gives a strong message: Kavita
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K. Kavita on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court order canceling the remission granted by the Gujarat government to 11 convicts in the Bilkis Bano gang rape case, and said the verdict has sent a powerful message.
“While their pain is unique, this verdict sends a powerful message: an unwavering commitment to the integrity of women. Justice prevails, every such decision sets an important example that our country stands with women,” Kavita posted on X.
Kavitha, who is the daughter of BRS president and former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao, also reposted her appeal to the Chief Justice of India regarding the case.
In August 2022, he appealed to the Supreme Court of India to save the country’s faith in our laws.
Describing the release of 11 convicts by the Gujarat government as shameful, he had appealed to the Supreme Court to intervene and take immediate action.
He had said that the decision to release those convicted of heinous crimes like rape and murder on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day has tarnished the divinity of the day.
The former MP said that this shameful decision should be immediately withdrawn so that citizens do not lose faith in the law and cases like Nirbhaya incident do not happen again and no woman has to suffer like Bilkis Bano.
The Supreme Court on Monday canceled the exemption granted by the Gujarat government to 11 convicts out of jail and also directed them to report to the jail authorities within two weeks.
