Mumbai: Smuggled gold worth Rs 1.7 crore seized in four separate cases at the airport

Mumbai: In four separate cases of gold smuggling, Mumbai Airport Customs officials on Saturday collectively seized gold worth Rs 1.74 crore.

According to the police, in the first three cases, the accused identified as Ghulam Dastagir Rahmani, Mohammad Iqbal and Fazal Khan were found using the same modus operandi to carry out smuggling activities.

A customs official said, “The luggage of the suspects was searched and it resulted in the recovery of gold. Each passenger was carrying one kilogram of gold tied with wire in a trolley bag. The total value of the seized gold is Rs 1.63 crore. “

He said, “The suspects had come from Jeddah on the same flight and now we are investigating who provided the gold to them and whether they were linked to the same smuggling syndicate. Besides, we are also investigating the recipients of the consignment.” Are.”

In the fourth case, customs officials had stopped a man named Mohammed Anees, who had come to Mumbai from Dubai on Saturday. The officers had seized gold dust hidden in the passenger’s vest during a personal search.

The total weight of the said gold is 210 grams whose value is Rs 11.69 lakh. “We are investigating who supplied the said gold to the passenger and who was to receive it in Mumbai,” the officer said.
