Hold assembly and Lok Sabha elections simultaneously in Jammu and Kashmir: Omar
National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah today said if the BJP truly believes in ‘one nation, one election’, the government should set the ball rolling by holding simultaneous elections for the Lok Sabha and the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly.
“The government and the BJP talk about one nation, one election, their report is ready, and if they really believe it, they should start by holding assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir along with the Lok Sabha elections. But if they don’t believe what they are saying, what can we say, deceiving people is their old habit,” Abdullah said.
The former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir was talking to journalists after returning from Umrah in Saudi Arabia. His father and National Conference (NC) president Farooq Abdullah also accompanied him on the pilgrimage.
The NC vice president said the leaders prayed for Jammu and Kashmir, especially for the improvement in the situation.
“We prayed for reduction in the distress of the people. We also prayed for the end of the drought here. God accepted our prayers and it started raining and snowing.”
On the interim budget, Abdullah said that it was not a full budget before the elections.
“The full budget will be presented after the elections. We knew they would not impose any new taxes and they have not done so. People will not cast their vote on the basis of this budget, they will decide on what has been done or not done in the last five years,” he said
