Five inches of fresh snowfall in Atal Tunnel Rohtang
Shimla. Amidst the yellow alert issued by the Meteorological Department, rain and snowfall continues in the state. While it has been raining heavily in the plains of the state since Sunday morning, snowfall is continuing in the upper areas.
It has been snowing in Lahaul valley including the tourist city Manali since morning. The South Portal of Atal Tunnel Rohtang has received five inches of fresh snowfall today. The temperature has also dropped drastically due to rain and snowfall in the state. Due to snowfall in the state, traffic has come to a standstill on four national highways and 518 roads.
At the same time, 478 power transformers are also closed. Due to which electricity supply has come to a standstill in many areas. Due to continuous rain and snowfall, the miseries of the people have increased. Let us tell you that the Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert regarding heavy snowfall in six districts of the state, Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Shimla, Kangra, Mandi and Kullu for the next two days.
The Meteorological Department has also expressed the possibility of falling of trees and lightning due to storm. Tourists and common people have been advised not to go to high altitude in snowfall affected areas.
