Kasganj accident: PM Modi announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each

Uttar Pradesh: In Patiali police station area of Kasganj district on Saturday morning, a tractor-trolley filled with devotees going to take bath in Ganga overturned in a pond on Patiali-Dariavganj road, due to which 24 people including children and women died and many others were injured. Expressing deep grief over this accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi wished for the speedy recovery of the injured and announced a compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased, while Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed deep grief over the accident and paid tribute to the deceased. Instructions have been given to provide financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the family members and Rs 50,000 each to the injured.

Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati have also expressed grief over the incident. Inspector General of Police (IG) Shalabh Mathur said that the devotees riding a tractor-trolley were going from Jaithra of Etah to Kasganj to take a bath in the Ganga when they came to Patiali. -While trying to overtake another vehicle on the Daryaevganj road, the tractor-trolley lost its balance. Earlier he had told that after this the tractor-trolley overturned in a seven-eight feet deep muddy pond due to which 15 people including seven children and eight women were killed. Death occurred. About 15 to 20 injured people were being treated in the hospital. Mathur later said that a total of 24 people died.

He said that the bodies will be handed over to the relatives after post-mortem soon. According to the list of the dead released by the police, Shakuntala (70), Ushma (24), Meera (65), Sapna (22), Pushpa (45), Shivam ( 30), Devanshi (six), Sunaina (10), Sidhu (one and a half years), Kuldeep (seven), Kartik (four), Payal (two months), Laddu (three), Sandhya (five) Diksha (19), Gayatri (52), Shyamalata (40), Guddi (75), Shivani (25), Meera (55), Anjali (24) and Jyoti (24) died. Apart from this, two others also died.

Mathur said that the Chief Minister has announced financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 each to the injured. Local resident Praveen Kumar, who was involved in the initial rescue operation, told reporters that he had rescued 15 people from the pond. The bodies were taken out. He said, ‘We took the injured to the hospital through whatever vehicles were coming on the road. Most of the dead include women.’ On the ‘X’ account of the Prime Minister’s Office, Modi said, ‘Heartbreaking! The accident that took place when a tractor trolley fell into a pond in Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh is saddening. My condolences to those who have lost their loved ones in this.”

The Prime Minister said, “With this I wish for the speedy recovery of the injured. Under the supervision of the state government, the local administration is engaged in providing all possible help to the victims. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in his condolence message on the social media platform ‘X’ said, “The loss of life in a road accident in Kasganj district is extremely heart-wrenching. . My condolences are with the bereaved families.” He said, “District administration officials have been instructed to provide proper free treatment to all the injured. It is a prayer to Lord Shri Ram to grant peace to the departed souls and speedy recovery to the injured.
