Gold worth lakhs seized in Raipur airport, major action by DRI

Raipur. DRI has taken major action. Acting on the information, DRI Raipur officials stopped a passenger arriving from Lucknow on an Indigo flight at Raipur airport. The stopped passenger was searched from whom 1160 grams of gold in the form of paste in a packet was recovered. Which was hidden in his clothes. 1080 grams of gold of 99.99% purity was obtained from the gold paste, which was worth Rs 67,36,522/-. In his voluntary statement, the captured Pax admitted to carrying the gold in paste form.

It was further revealed that this gold was brought and hidden from Lucknow during the international flight from Sharjah to Lucknow and then during the domestic leg of the same flight. Raipur: This hidden gold was recovered by this traveler. The said passenger was arrested at Raipur on 24.02.2024 under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. In this case the smuggled gold has been seized by DRI under relevant provisions of the Customs Act, 1962. Further investigation is ongoing. DRI Raipur has seized about 11 kg of smuggled gold and so far 7 people have been arrested in the gold smuggling case.
