India’s strong message at the UNSC; warning to those shielding terrorists.

New Delhi. India has once again reiterated its firm stance on the issue of terrorism at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). Speaking from the UN platform, India delivered a clear message that the practice of shielding terrorists or creating political hurdles in the listing process must cease. India asserted that the UNSC should not be allowed to become a tool for serving the narrow political interests of any single nation.

During a discussion on the working methods of the UNSC, India’s representative at the UN, Yojana Patel, articulated India’s position on issues concerning terrorism and global security. Without explicitly naming any country, she took aim at nations that obstruct international action against terrorists.

Opposition to political interference in terrorist listing

India stated that terrorism remains one of the gravest challenges to international peace and security. Consequently, the process of identifying and sanctioning terrorists must be impartial and effective.

Yojana Patel emphasized that the process of compiling lists of terrorists should not be influenced by political interests. She stressed that there can be no room for double standards in the fight against terrorism.

India’s statement comes amidst ongoing debates at various UN forums regarding terrorist organizations and their backers.

Indirect criticism of Pakistan and China’s stance

Although India did not name any specific country in its statement, the remarks were clearly directed at Pakistan and China. India has long accused Pakistan of harboring terrorist organizations and failing to take adequate action against them.

Meanwhile, India has accused China of delaying the listing process at the UN by placing “technical holds” on proposals to designate certain terrorists. India maintains that the international community must act in unison to address the issue of terrorism.

Emphasis on upholding the credibility of the UNSC

India also underscored the need for reforms in the working methods of the United Nations Security Council. The Indian representative stated that the Security Council’s credibility can only be maintained if it effectively addresses global challenges and treats all nations equally.

India asserted that the Security Council should function as a platform where impartial decisions regarding international peace and security are made. No country should exploit the Council’s procedures to serve its own political interests.

India’s Long-standing Stance Against Terrorism

For years, India has been advocating for stringent global measures against terrorism. India maintains that terrorism cannot be justified on any grounds and that all nations must take collective action against it.

India has raised the issue at various international forums, emphasizing that action must also be taken against those who provide financial aid, training, or safe havens to terrorists.

Call for Global Cooperation

At the United Nations, India urged all member states to prioritize the fight against terrorism above political differences. India emphasized that terrorism is not merely a problem for a single country or region but a challenge facing the entire world.

India highlighted the need for the international community to foster strong cooperation and develop effective mechanisms to take action against terrorist networks and their supporters.

India’s Continued Diplomatic Engagement

This statement by India at the UNSC is viewed as part of its ongoing diplomatic efforts. India has long advocated for a robust framework within the United Nations to combat terrorism.

Experts believe India’s message is clear: political obstructionism regarding the issue of terrorism will not be tolerated. India seeks concrete, non-discriminatory action against terrorism from global institutions.

Moving forward, India will continue to firmly articulate its position on terrorism, security, and global cooperation at the United Nations and other international forums.
