Kapu police stopped child marriage, girl’s father returned the wedding procession
Raigarh. Women Child Development and Kapu Police received information about the marriage of a minor girl in village Salkheta, Panchayat Gidhkalo. On information, Kapu police and members of Mahila Child Vikas reached the girl’s house, where it was learned that a marriage procession was coming from Sitapur for the wedding on the same day. In front of prominent people of the village, police and members of Mahila Bal Vikas informed the girl’s parents and family about the ill effects of marrying children at an early age.
Marriage of minors is considered illegal and invalid. Getting a minor married is a crime under the Child Marriage Prohibition Act, which has a provision for punishment along with fine. His advice had an impact on the girl’s family and the girl’s father informed the boy’s side not to bring the wedding procession. The girl’s father will marry his daughter when she becomes a child, after which the Kapu police advised other families of the village to marry their boys and girls only at the prescribed age.
