Amritsar Diocese organizes peace march on Palm Sunday
Punjab: With an aim to spread peace and hope in a world affected by various natural disasters, conflicts and incidents of violence, the Diocese of Amritsar (DOA), Church of North India (CNI) organized a “Peace March” on the occasion. Palm Sunday is celebrated annually as “Peace Day”. The event saw wide participation from members of the Christian community in Amritsar.
According to tradition, Christians take out Palm Sunday processions carrying palm tree branches in their hands. Palm Sunday is celebrated every year as “Peace Day” to pray for world peace.
Symbol of victory, palm branches, and a cross made of palm leaves, and chanting “Hosanna!” Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!” Christians marched through various routes of the city to spread the message of peace and unity.
A joint worship service was held on the grounds of St. Paul’s Church here, which witnessed enthusiastic participation of Christian devotees.
Meanwhile, special puja services were held before the peace march in churches under the purview of DOA, CNI in Ajnala, Batala, Khem Karan, Tarn Taran, Attari and Bhindi Saidan, where special pujas were followed by church members led by the convenors. Services were held. Small processions were taken out in these areas, which later transformed into the main procession starting from St. Paul’s Church on Court Road.
