Bandi Sanjay filed two petitions demanding cancellation of FIR

Hyderabad: Karimnagar MP Bandi Sanjay Kumar and eight others filed two criminal petitions seeking quashing of FIRs registered against them over alleged clash with police in Chengicherla.

The FIR lodged at Uppal and Medipalli police stations of Rachakonda police commissionerate states that they were involved in a clash between two communities. However, the petitioners denied the allegations and described them as “false” and “politically motivated”. He reiterated his innocence and claimed that the police had wrongly implicated him.
The incident reportedly took place on Wednesday (March 27) at Pittal Basti in Chengicherla. According to the complaint by Nacharam Inspector A Nandishwar Reddy, the petitioners along with others forcibly destroyed the barricades and prevented the police from performing their official duty. As a result, officers and other employees were also injured.
In response, the petitioners said that they had no involvement in the said incident. He clarified that on the eve of Holi, there was a clash between the ST and members of the Rohingya communities in which they were allegedly attacked. Being an MP and national general secretary of the BJP, Sanjay along with other party workers visited Chengicherla on March 27 to console the affected families. He claimed that the police prevented him from meeting the victims and allegedly used force against him. Although there was tension, he claimed that no untoward incident took place.
The petitioners argued that the FIRs were aimed at tarnishing their reputation. He argued that the alleged acts do not constitute offenses under the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Thus, continuing the legal proceedings against him is an abuse of the process of the court, he said.
