Chief Minister took a dig at the Congress leader over his religious inclination.

Guwahati, April 12: Ahead of the first phase of Lok Sabha elections, while campaigning in Chabua in Upper Assam on Friday, the Assam Chief Minister attacked Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi, who is contesting from Jorhat. The Chief Minister questioned Gogoi’s religious devotion, citing his participation in Eid prayers with independent MLA Akhil Gogoi in Sivasagar.

He alleged that Gogoi was holding rallies and agitations with Rahil Gandhi during the Nyay Yatra in Assam on the day of the Ram Mandir Samagam. Sarma also alleged that “This is a kind of appeasement politics towards the Muslim society for which Gogoi is working hard, but Sarma said that Muslims need development and jobs.”

He further said, “Gaurav Gogoi knows the correct posture of offering Namaz. I don’t know where he learned this from. But the question here is that the way he and Akhil Gogoi have shown so much devotion towards Eid, why did they not show the same during the Ram Mandir Dharma Sabha. When Pran Pratistha was taking place, he was fighting the administration and breaking the law along with Rahul Gandhi on the streets of Assam during the Nyay Yatra.

He has committed a big sin that he did not go to Ram temple even once. He does not go to Kamakhya. We have many other festivals but we do not see his devotion there. People like him do not love anyone. Neither Hindu nor Muslim. The Muslim society of Assam does not need this type of appeasement.
