Kerala News: High Court dismisses petition challenging the election of Vajoor Soman
Kochi: The High Court here on Friday dismissed a petition challenging the election of LDF candidate Vajoor Soman from Peermedu constituency in Idukki in the 2021 Kerala Assembly elections. Justice Mary Joseph dismissed the election petition filed by UDF candidate Cyriac Thomas, who lost to Soman in the assembly elections. Reacting to this, Thomas said that he will approach the Supreme Court.
Thomas alleged that Soman did not disclose full information in the affidavit submitted along with the nomination papers. It was argued that information about Soman’s wife’s bank statement, PAN card etc. was not given and only one year’s income tax return was filed. Soman contested the election when he was in charge of the Warehousing Corporation. Pointing to this, Thomas alleged double duty in his petition.
Soman had testified in the court that he did not deliberately hide anything and the corrections were made with the permission of the election officer. Considering the matter, the High Court sought details from the Election Commission. After due consideration of the facts, the petition of Cyriac Thomas was dismissed.
