Adilabad news: Farmers got relief from shortage of cotton seeds

Adilabad: Farmers reeling from the shortage of cotton seeds have got relief, as officials have taken steps to address the issue. Cotton growers said that now they can easily buy seeds from any dealer in the district centre and 16 mandal centres, they need not wait in long queues. They said that now they will focus on farming operations. They expressed happiness over the availability of adequate cotton seeds. Around 30,000 bags of seeds are available across the district. Cotton crop is expected to be grown in 4.16 lakh acres in the district. Agriculture department officials have made available 10.38 lakh bags containing 450 grams of seeds.

However, a few days ago, queues of farmers to buy Rashi 659 variety of cotton seeds in district headquarters facing scorching heat made headlines. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and CMO officials have paid special attention to the shortage of seeds. They are said to have spoken to seed manufacturers, who have assured to send 80,000 bags of seeds to the district soon. District Collector Rajarshi Shah and Superintendent of Police Gausha Alam inspected seed shops to ensure smooth procurement of seeds. Meanwhile, Agriculture Extension Officer Shiva Charan was suspended for negligence in discharging duties. Adilabad Mandal Agriculture Officer Ramesh was transferred to Both for negligence in discharging duties. A case was registered against two seed sellers for sending seeds in black market.
