Locals Resort To Unique Protest Over Slow Pace Of Work In Odisha, Clean Sukapaika River
Salipur: Locals in Salipur area of Cuttack district resorted to a unique protest over slow pace of work cleaned the Sukapaika river recently.
As per the direction of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), Rs 50 Crore was granted for revamp and restoration of the Sukapaika river. However, a year has been passed, but the work has not accelerated. Protesting over this, the locals of Kishore Nagar area entered the river and cleaned the water hyacinths.
The villager alleged that the contractor is not paying heed to their repeated request to accelerate the work. They said that if the work is not completed at the earliest possible time, the farmers would face problems during the rainy season.
The villagers even run from pillar to post time and again. However, as their repeated plea went unheard they resorted to the unique protest to draw the attention of the concerned officials. They entered the river and cleaned the water hyacinths, trash and debris.
They also warned to hit the street if the revamp and restoration work of the river is not completed by the end of July.
